The delicate nature of the skin around the eyes and lack of oil-producing sebaceous glands means that if not cared for, the skin is prone to dryness as one gets older . Some of the aesthetic challenges adults face when it comes to eye care are ageing, wrinkling, eye puffiness and dark circles.

While these challenges sound cosmetic and hilarious, it is necessary for people to know the causes of and how to combat these challenges.

Eye challenges and remedies

Dark lines/circles

Causes: These could be caused by smoking, dehydration, heavy drinking, lack of sleep or ageing.

Remedy: To counteract this, get at least eight hours of sleep, drink about two litres of water daily, avoid smoke-filled areas or smoking. Eye products that contain Vitamin K or Lexin can also help.

Puffiness

Causes: This could be caused by allergies or fluid retention from salt intake, dehydration or insufficient sleep.

Remedy: Drink up to two litres of water, apply cold compress (ice in a cloth) for ten to fifteen minutes daily, get enough sleep. Eye products containing Green Tea, Cucumber extract or Chamomile usually help.

Ageing

Causes: Reduced production of Collagen and Elastin that tightens and firms up the skin. The result is wrinkles and sagging skin.

Remedy: Get enough sleep, drink lots of water. Products that contain Retinol/Vitamin A, Vitamin C and Antioxidants can help make the skin look younger.

Applying the eye products

Adults need to exercise some care when applying the products. It is recommended that the product is placed on the clean ring finger and then tapped lightly over the relevant areas around the eyes. This helps keep the product from getting into the eyes. The soft tapping motion also soothes the area.

Adults need to take care of their eyes beyond the appearance, so regular eye checks are also recommended. Contact us for more eye care advice.
