We have come a long way. 59 years of independence and unity. We pray the country stands strong and grows more united by the day.

As we celebrate the nation’s birthday, remember to stay healthy, safe and take care of your eyes.

Some things to be conscious of:

  • Do not drink or eat excessively and do not drive if you have had too much to drink.
  • Allow your eyes to rest. Don’t binge-watch television or stare all day at your devices.
  • Open corked bottles carefully, particularly champagne. Hold the bottle away anyone before uncorking.
  • Avoid sharing your eye makeup.
  • Remove your eye makeup completely before you sleep.

Other events in October

October 10 is World Sight Day and we will be having free eye tests from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm at St Edmunds Eye Hospital, 12, Salawu Street, Surulere, Lagos. Do endeavour to come early and invite others to benefit from this opportunity.  Available tests include:

  • Visual acuity – checking how well one can see
  • Refraction – test for refractive error
  • Ophthalmoscopy – checking the back of the eye (e.g. the retina) for eye diseases like glaucoma, etc.

Adults and children are welcome.

We wish all Nigerians a happy 59th National birthday!
