Effects of Sleep Deprivation

When you indulge in cutting your sleep time short, you would end up having dark circles underneath your eyes. They will look puffy, thus giving you a tired look when you approach people in public.

Also, inadequate sleep can cause eye spasms and twitching throughout the next day. This makes it very difficult for one to read or focus properly on other important daily activities such as office work or driving.

A more serious effect of lack of sleep is dry, itchy and bloodshot eyes which could be painful and result in irritation. It is also a warning sign that your eyes are not getting enough lubrication to stay healthy. You might also experience a sudden sensitivity to light or blurry vision. When you rub your dry and itchy eyes, this could cause eye infections.

Lack of sleep can depress your immune system leaving one open to all sorts of opportunistic infections of the eyes. These infections would normally not cause any serious eye infections, but insufficient sleep leaves the body unable to fight these infections.
